Lake Somerville
Just North of Brenham off Highway 36, about 80 miles West of Houston
Great Family ski and fishing lake, plenty of camping (State Park and US Corps of Engineers). The lake has many beaches, coves and islands, great for beaching and relaxing. Great escape from the City of Houston.

Possum Kingdom Lake
About 110 miles West of Dallas
Awesome Lake, on the upper fork of the Brazos River. There are many  camping, cabins, B&B and resort type facilies on the lake as well as a State Park. There are many picturesque sights on the lake, including Hell's Gate (above picture) and the Cliff's Marina has huge motoryachts in the slips. Great for fishing, skiing, scuba diving and sailing. Awesome lake.
